January 2011
The Centre for Energy and the Environment has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating of higher than 80% in its design assessment, giving it the highest BREEAM rating for a higher education project in the UK. Ebba are the sustainability and BREEAM consultants for this higher education research and teaching facility for North Highland College, UHI. This achievement is all the more remarkable given that the Centre is in Thurso, in the very north of Scotland where many did not think that a BREEAM Excellent was achievable. The project is being constructed by Robertson Highland and was designed by HRI Architects. The Excellent rating has been achieved by the determination of the client and the diligence of the design and construction team which also included: Robertson Highland Construction , HRI Architects, Gardiner & Theobald and Pick Everard Engineers.
