The following are current and recent Projects on which the Sustainability arm of Ebba Consultants are engaged:

New Teaching Facilities and Library Shetland College 

This project will deliver a range of new facilities for the further and higher education college on the Shetland Isles - Britain's most northerly college.  Working directly for the College, EBBA are the project BREEAM consultants and assessors.  The project includes refurbishment and extension of existing facilities, its island location and northerly latitude make the project all the more challenging.  The project is aiming for, and on target to achieve, a Very Good rating.   

UHI, North Highland College - Centre for Energy and the Environment

A Higher Education building providing research and teaching facilities for HNC to PHd students and research staff.  The project is funded by the Scottish Funding Council and is being constructed by Robertson Highland, the architects are HRI Architects and Mechanical Engineers are Pick Everard.  Ebba are sustainability consultants and BREEAM assessors for the project. The design benefitted from, amongst other points: Green Guide A rated materials; low carbon building design; a well-managed site with low energy consumption; energy efficient water and energy solutions and low environmental impact on the biodiversity of the site ecology. The project achieved an Excellent rating in excess of 80% at the design assessment.  It is currently the highest scoring BREEAM Higher Education in the UK at the design and procurement stage.

North Highland College -  Energy Skills Centre

A Further Education facility providing workshops and teaching space for engineering skills development in the emerging energy sector.  The project is funded by the Scottish Funding Council and is being constructed by Morrison Construction, it was designed by Arch-Henderson Architects, and the engineers are URS.  Ebba are sustainability consultants and BREEAM assessors for the project. The project is aiming for an Excellent BREEAM rating.  

NHS Health Centre 

Ebba are sustainability consultants and BREEAM assessors for a new NHS health-centre for a north of Scotland town.  The project is being developed up to RIBA Stage B for subsequent approval; Ebba are working for a major construction company engaged for this early design activity.  The project is being designed to an Excellent BREEAM Healthcare rating.

New Primary School – Highlands

This new Maryburgh and Conon Bridge Primary School is an amalgamation of two existing primary schools to a new all purpose 21st Century facility.  EBBA are the sustainability and BREEAM Consultants for this project which is aiming for a BREEAM Excellent.  The design team is led by The Highland Council Housing and Property design team, the M&E engineers are CDMM(UK) Ltd.  The project is currently at the design stage assessment.

NHS Hospital Refurbishment.

Working for a major construction company, EBBA are BREEAM consultants and assessors for the refurbishment of a listed Victorian hospital building. 

New Primary School – Inverness

This is a new Primary School for Milton of Leys, an evolving area in Inverness City.  The new school will serve its immediate catchment area and takes full benefit of new infrastructure and walking and cycling routes to the school.  The building is currently approaching its submission for the design and procurement assessment and is expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent.  The construction design team are Morrisons Construction, Keppies Architects and M&E engineers Richard Irvine.  The project will benefit from sustainably procured materials, sound ecological management, energy saving water, lighting and heating solutions, a high standard of site management and be a healthy place to work.

Wick High School

EBBA are working at the feasibility and design stage of this new community school.  As part of the design team EBBA are working with PM, the Carbon Trust and the Highland Council in developing a low carbon and sustainable community facility for the local community.  The process will involve a design charrette, further community consultation on the sustainability of the building design, the education requirements for the 21st century and then set in context the design requirements for this new facility.  The project is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating.

New Housing – Inverness

A Servite Housing Association project delivering a development of sustainable affordable housing for the community.  The project is on target to achieve an Ecohomes Excellent at the design and procurement stage.

The project has focused on reducing its ecological impact on the existing local ecology, good access to amenities and public transport, low carbon design solution, incorporating a low carbon heating system, low water and energy use and sustainably procured materials.

EBBA are the sustainability and Ecohomes assessors for the project and are supporting the design and build team through the Ecohomes process and assessing the project.

Sub-contracted EcoHomes Assessment - London 

Working for a major national building and project management consultancy, who were themselves EcoHomes assessors, Ebba provided cost-effective additional capacity, assessing a 56 unit EcoHomes development in London.  

New Housing - Perth

A new development for a social housing association in the Perth area.  The project is at the early stages of design.  The client is focusing on sustainable construction and the potential for a Community Heating Plant (CHP).  The design team are targeting and Ecohomes Excellent.  EBBA are the sustainability and Ecohomes assessors for the project.

Local Authority Training

EBBA were invited to deliver BREEAM awareness training for a local authority.  The attendees included architects, quantity surveyors, engineers and senior management.  The two day training covered cost effective delivery of BREEAM, key early stages and credits, material resourcing and procurement and an overview of all the sections.

Feedback was the course was well received and had enhanced the understanding and application  of the BREEAM methodology.

Construction Company Training

EBBA were invited to deliver CPD BREEAM familiarisation training for major construction company.  The training covered an overview of BREEAM in context with sustainability and Government targets, and over view and cost effective application of the BREEAM  methodology; and a deeper consideration of sustainable procurement and site management.  The training was attended by Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and Site Managers.

Affordable Housing Development – Inverness

Winner of the Scottish Small Affordable Housing of the Year 2010 and the Highest Scottish scoring Ecohomes development under the current scheme, the development is a mix of cottages and flats.  The design was the first of its kind to incorporate a Biomass CHP scheme in Inverness was designed to deliver a low carbon building solution.  The building benefited from BRE Green Guide A rated materials, low energy solutions, low water use, a well-managed site, good links to public transport and amenities
